The circular slide rule helps pilots calculate fuel consumption, airspeed, distance, and flight time.
1. [Multiplying Two Numbers]
To calculate 12×7, rotate the outer circle scale 12 to the corresponding position of the inner circle scale 10. At this point, the outer circle value 84 corresponding to the inner circle scale 7 is the result of 12×7.
2. [Dividing Two Numbers]
To calculate 120 ÷ 4, simply rotate the outer scale 12 (=120) to the position of the inner scale 40 (=4). At this point, the outer value 30 corresponding to the inner scale 10 is the result of 120 ÷ 4.
3. [Distance Unit Conversion]
To convert 1800 miles to kilometers or nautical miles, simply rotate the outer circle scale 18 (i.e. 1800) to the red mile reference scale (STAT) on the inner circle. At this point, the outer circle value 29 corresponding to the red kilometer reference scale (KM) on the inner circle means 2900 kilometers converted, and the outer circle value 15.6 corresponding to the red nautical mile reference scale (NAUT) on the inner circle means 1560 nautical miles converted.
4. [Simple Exchange Rate Conversion]
Assuming the exchange rate of GBP to EUR is 1 GBP=1.1, simply rotate the outer scale 11 to the inner scale â–² 10, and a series of conversion data can be easily read. The inner scale represents the GBP value, and the outer scale represents the corresponding EUR value. Namely: 40 pounds=44 euros, 80 euros=72.7 pounds.
5. [Calculation of Flight Landing Time]
For example, how long does it take for a pilot to land from an altitude of 3300 meters at a speed of 1 meter per second or 60 meters per minute? Just rotate the outer circle value 33 (=3300) to correspond to the inner circle value 60, and the outer circle value 55 corresponding to the inner circle scale â–² 10 is the desired time, which is 55 minutes.
6. [Obtain Landing Schedule]
For example, if a pilot lands at a speed of 60 meters per minute and corresponds this landing rate to the inner circle mark â–² 10, the schedule for descending to any altitude can be obtained: descending 3300 meters takes 55 minutes, descending 1800 meters takes 30 minutes, descending 900 meters takes 15 minutes, which is clear at a glance.
